Cosplay is a type (种类) of performance art. The word “cosplay” is short for “costume play.” Cosplayers dress up as their favourite characters from books, films or TV shows. They also speak and act like the characters they represent (代表). And they sometimes act out their favourite scenes (片段) with their friends.
Cosplay started in Japan (日本) in the 1970s. Then it spread to other places all over the world. In recent (近来的) years, cosplay has become more and more popular (流行的) in China. You can see cosplayers at clubs, cinemas, parks and many other places. They get together to celebrate (庆祝) the things they enjoy.
